ITV set to axe “expensive flops” Jonathan Ross, Christine Bleakley and Adrian Chiles!
It’s been reported today that ITV are set to part company with “expensive flops” Jonathan Ross, Christine Bleakley and Adrian Chiles, all of whom will reportedly be told their contracts with the broadcaster will not be renewed when they expire this year.
The three presenters earned around £5million between them from ITV, yet the shows they’ve been involved with have failed to light up the ratings…
And of course, Bleakley and Chiles were axed from breakfast show Daybreak when viewing figures fell to an all time low last year. They were replaced by show veteran Lorraine Kelly and presenter Aled Jones…
The Daily Star reports, “Wossy, 52, was said to be ‘resigned to his fate’ of seeing his ailing Saturday night chat show axed after one more run.”
A “senior ITV insider” told the paper, “It is fair to say that we paid top dollar for Jonathan, Christine and Adrian and to be frank they haven’t delivered the ratings we had hoped and expected.
“Any new deal they might be offered would be on greatly reduced terms.”
The source added, “Adrian is doing a great job hosting the football but that wasn’t the main reason for signing him.
“Christine has other projects lined up but may feel it is time to move on.
“We have other ideas for Jonathan after his chat show ends but it depends on whether we can agree terms.”
Earlier this year, Chiles remarked, “I love working for ITV, long may it continue.”
I imagine on a salary like his, anyone would love working for ITV…
But what do you think? Were the trio “expensive flops” or have you enjoyed watching them on ITV?
For now, here’s a reminder of Bleakley and Chiles’ last appearance on Daybreak…
