Two of the country’s top TV actors have been confirmed for the brand new ITV1 daytime drama, The Royal Today.

Producers have signed up Jack Ryder and Paul Nicholas to star in the modern day hospital drama which is due to begin in production this summer in Yorkshire.

Ex-Eastender Jack Ryder will play hard working and ambitious charge nurse, Adam Fearnley. The popular nurse is in a long-term relationship with his colleague Heather, but that doesn’t stop the student nurses taking a shine to him.

Popular TV and theatre actor Paul Nicholas will play meticulous consultant surgeon, Mr Woods. Paul’s character is not particularly good with people unless they are unconscious, and his somewhat gruff exterior strikes fear in the hearts of student nurses, but deep down he has only the best interests of the hospital at heart.

The Royal Today’s executive producer, Keith Richardson, said:

“We are thrilled to have two such fantastic actors on board to join The Royal Today. The opening episode ends with a murder in the hospital, so there will be plenty to get viewers gripped right from the very beginning.”

Jack Ryder, who is taking on his first major TV role since leaving Eastenders, is thrilled to be back on our screens. Jack said:

“Adam is a great character and so different from my previous roles. I loved the scripts as soon as I read them and I’m really excited about the show. I can’t wait to start filming.”

Paul Nicholas yesterday confirmed reports that he has finished the national tour of the Broadway Hit 42nd Street and spoke excitedly about his new role:

“I’m delighted to be playing a consultant surgeon in a brand new daytime drama. It’s been a while since I’ve played a regular character and I can’t wait to get started.”
