16 year old Lorde from New Zealand is currently in a battle with X Factor winner James Arthur to claim the Number 1 spot on the Official Singles Chart.
According to data released by the Official Charts Company earlier today in this mid week chart update if Lorde does take the Number 1 crown then that would deny James Arthur his second number 1.
As of around 4pm today (23rd October) there were just over 7,000 copies between ‘Royals’ by Lorde (1) and ‘You’re Nobody Til Somebody Loves You’ by James Arthur (2) but everything could change come Sunday.
James Arthur scored his first UK Number 1 with ‘Impossible’ following his win on the X Factor and the track became the fastest selling single of 2012 after it racked up sales of 490,000 copies in its first week.
OneRepublic slip two places into Number (3) this week while Showtek featuring We Are Loud and Sonny Wilson debut in the Top 10 with ‘Booyah’ at Number (4)
Rounding off the Top 5 this week in the Official Singles Chart mid week update is Katy Perry with ‘Roar’ which climbs one place into Number (5) following her performance on the X Factor on Sunday night.
According to the Official Charts Company other than Lorde, James Arthur and Showtek there are a total of eight new entries in this mid week stage.
Looking set to score their second Top 10 hit are former X Factor contestants Union J with ‘Beautiful Life’ with is in at Number (6) while Justin Bieber looks set to have his third new entry in three weeks with ‘Hold Tight’ which is at Number (9).
At Number (30) this week are Icona Pop with ‘All Night’ which is their follow up to their debut single ‘I Love It’ featuring Charli XCX.
One place behind Icona Pop is Taylor Swift who is at Number (31) with ‘Sweeter Than Fiction’ while Sway, a rapper from London looks set to score his fourth hit in the Top 40 with ‘No Sleep’ at Number (35).
Justin Bieber is back again at Number (35) with ‘Wait For A Minute’ by Tyga and Sean Paul is new at Number (37) with ‘Turn It Up’.
Making his 21st appearance in the Top 40 is Dizzee Rascal with ‘Love This Town’ featuring Teddy Sky which is at Number (38).
‘Blurred Lines’ moves up 11 places into Number (22) following Robin Thicke’s performance on the X Factor over the weekend.
