After an incredible eight and a half year stint as the host of BBC Radio 1’s breakfast show Chris Moyles said farewell to his listeners in his final breakfast show on the network.
Chris and the team – including sidekick Comedy Dave, Dominic Byrne, Tina Daheley, Aled, Freya and Pippa – looked back at some of their highlights over the years, paid tribute to their listeners and received a number of goodbye video messages from the show’s showbiz friends.
Jamie Oliver was the first friend of the show to wish them well with a video message. He also sent one of the chefs from his restaurants to cook Chris and the team a farewell breakfast.
Other celebrity well-wishers included Coldplay’s Chris Martin, Tom Daley and Sir Terry Wogan, while pop band McFly recorded a special version of their song Star Girl, retitling it Star Boy for Chris and team’s final McFly Day.
Also Richard Curtis from Comic Relief came in to thank Chris and the team for all the support and fundraising they have done over the years, revealing that they have raised a staggering total of £10.4 million for the charity.
The many challenges which the team have done in aid of Comic Relief include Chris’ record breaking 52-hour broadcast with sidekick Comedy Dave that raised more than £2million for Red Nose Day in March 2011. Others charity feats include the Chris Moyles Red Nose Rally for Comic Relief in 2005 where they drove in famous TV cars from John O’Groats to Land’s End raising over £600,000; Chris Moyles Rallyoake in 2007 where they performed karaoke nights around the UK raising over £700,000; and in 2009 Chris climbed Kilimanjaro with Gary Barlow, Cheryl Cole and others raising over £1m.
The show ended with a special goodbye song from Chris and the team.
Chris Moyles said: “The best show with the best team on the best radio station with the best listeners. Thanks to everyone for tuning into the show and for giving me the best job ever. Goodbye for now…”
