Jamie Oliver’s not Mr Popular in Rotherham

According to reports out today, Jamie Oliver has been warned to stay away from Rotherham. The locals have allegedly said that he’s made them out to be “numpties” in his show, Jamie’s Ministry Of Food.

In the show, Jamie opened a shop in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, in order to teach families in one of Britain’s ‘takeaway capitals’ how to prepare healthy food for themselves.

He decided to set his new challenge show in Rotherham after local mothers – including Julie Critchlow – were seen passing junk food to their children through school railings in protest at his previous TV show, Jamie’s School Dinners.

The new programme intended to show these parents – some of whom had never cooked a meal – how to make easy, healthy meals.

Some mums featured on the new show had no idea how to tell when water was boiling. Despite this, Councillor John Gilding, leader of the town’s Conservative group, said, “I was disappointed by the portrayal of our town.

“It gave the impression that everyone was down at heel and it made us look like dumbos.”

Local sandwich shop owner, Neil Beaumont said, “It made us all look like numpties.’’

And local chef, Alan Dale, added, “My message to Jamie is: ‘Stay away from Rotherham!’

Last night, Jamie’s representative, Peter Berry said, “I think over the course of the series Rotherham is shown in a generally good light.”
