Coronation Street star Jane Danson – who plays Leanne in the soap – gave birth to her second son in the early hours of yesterday. She and husband Robert Beck have named the new arrival Alfie Sam Robert. The baby weighed 7lbs 5oz and it seems mum and baby are both doing very well!

Jane and Robert already have one son – Harry Alexander Jack – who’s two years old.

Apparently, Jane’s labour had to be induced despite earlier reports that she’d been rushed to hospital as an emergency and even though the baby came slightly early, it seems that there were no complications and baby Alfie is fit and well. A spokesperson for Coronation Street confirmed this to be the case in an interview with Digitalspy.

There’s been something of a baby boom among Corrie actors of late with Jane’s new baby being just the latest! Alison King gave birth to a daughter two weeks ago and Jack P. Shepherd and Wiki Dankowska both became parents just days later!

Sadly, Kym Marsh’s baby son died two weeks ago after being born 18 weeks early, but she’s bravely opted to return to work already.
