Jane Horrocks, Mark Addy and Rita May for Sky’s ‘Trollied’

via press release:

Sky has announced the commission of TROLLIED for Sky 1 HD and due to be broadcast in July 2011.

The supermarket-based comedy which centres on the everyday lives of its staff is directed by Paul Walker (Shameless, Casualty) and has been written by a team of writers lead by Julie Rutterford (Shameless and Life on Mars).

TROLLIED boasts a stellar cast list including Bafta and Golden Globe® nominee Jane Horrocks (The Road to Coronation Street, Absolutely Fabulous), Mark Addy (The Full Monty, Game of Thrones), Jason Watkins (Being Human, Lark Rise to Candleford) and Rita May (Coronation Street, Drop Dead Gorgeous). They are joined by Joel Fry (White Van Man), Nick Blood (Material Girl,Combat Kids), Chanel Cresswell (This is England) and Lorraine Cheshire (Life on Mars, Early Doors, Waterloo Road).

TROLLIED is set in “Valco” supermarket, a fictional budget supermarket in the North West. The show takes a comic look at a setting we’ve all spent too much of our lives in, be it buying pasta, arguing with our loved ones or just trying to explain why we don’t want yet another a loyalty card. TROLLIED is a slice of life populated by the characters we all see every time we go shopping, the bored kids on the checkouts, the ineffectual managers and the irate customers.

TROLLIED is the latest comedy commission in Sky’s major cross channel investment into new original British comedy driven by Lucy Lumsden and Sky’s Director of Programmes, Stuart Murphy, and will be the first series to hit the screens. The comedy joins the previously announced Ruth Jones comedy drama STELLA, due to air on Sky 1 HD in 2012 as well as MOUNT PLEASANT and THIS IS JINSY, both of which will be broadcast later this year on Sky 1 HD and Sky Atlantic respectively.

Lucy Lumsden, Head of Comedy, Sky commented: “TROLLIED is the first of a number of brand new British comedies for Sky and we’re extremely excited by the talent around the show, on and off screen.”

Stuart Murphy, Director of Programmes, Sky1 HD, Sky Atlantic HD, Sky1, 2 & Pick TV
added:“TROLLIED is a fantastic example of the aspirations we have for comedy on Sky 1 HD. I am delighted that our comedy output is increasing and that we’re firmly establishing Sky as the home of great British comedy for our customers.”

Ash Atalla, Managing Director, Roughcut TV added “TROLLIED a big scale commission with big ambition and big stars. It cements Roughcut TV as one of the fastest growing independents in the world of scripted comedy and entertainment and we’re delighted to be working with Sky 1 HD.’
