Chat show host Jeremy Kyle has revealed that he had “nothing to lose” by becoming the presenter of a new game show, as he’s already the “most hated man in Britain.”
Jeremy is hosting new quiz show High Stakes, which premieres tonight on ITV1 at 8pm. As part of the game, Jeremy can help contestants answer questions, but if he gets any answers wrong, the hopeful could lose up to half a million pounds.
And when asked if he was worried about how people might feel about him if that happens, he told The Sun’s TV Biz, “There are people out there who would have turned down this job as it’s high risk.
“I don’t know the answers, so if I offer advice to someone and they lose, it could look bad…
“But I’m already the most hated man in the UK and possibly the world. So although I know how it will look if I get it wrong, that didn’t really bother me, to be honest.
“People might think, ‘What the hell is he doing a quiz show for?’. But all I can do is make it as compelling as I can and then let people decide for themselves.”
And while remarking on a popularity poll that he once featured in, Jeremy said, “My agent said at the time, ‘You can’t even win the most hated man poll’.
“But I think if they did the poll again I might win it as Bin Laden’s gone.
“People have opinions. It’s water off a duck’s back. But there are a lot of people out there who say they don’t watch my show, and do. It’s a guilty pleasure for lots of people.
“It’s worked for six and a half years. It’s on four times a day, so I’m probably on television more than anyone else in this country. So I must be doing something right.”
