The Official Singles Chart Top 40 is complete and finalised for another week, and this week, it’s all about the girls.
That’s right, as predicted on the midweek update Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj have soared to the top of the Official Singles Charts with ‘Bang Bang’.
‘Bang Bang’ has already given the pop trio a large amount of success across the world including entering the Top 10 in the likes of America, Australia and across Europe.
The track knocks Sigma and Paloma Faith’s ‘Changing’ into Number (2) after it scored 92,000 downloads this week as well as being streamed more than 800,000 times.
For Jessie J this is the first track to be lifted from her new album ‘Sweet Talker’ and gives the homegrown star her first number one single with ‘Domino’ nearly three years ago.
Speaking with OfficialCharts.com Jessie J said: “I want to say thank you, thank you, thank you for making me Number 1. Bang Bang is the first single off my new album Sweet Talker and for it to be such a success around the world means so much to me.
“To be Number 1 for in the UK for the first time in three years… I’m going to celebrate every minute of it, I might even go bowling?!” she added.
‘Bang Bang’ also gives Nicki Minaj her first number one in the UK while for Ariana Grande this acts as her second following ‘Problem’ featuring Iggy Azalea which topped the charts earlier in the year.
Elsewhere in the charts Taylor Swift climbs two places into Number (3) with ‘Shake It Off’ while Calvin Harris and John Newman are at Number (4) with ‘Blame’.
‘Prayer In C’, the former number one from Lilly Wood and Robin Schulz completes the Official Singles Chart Top 5 this week at Number (5).
Looking at new entries and high climbers this week the Official Charts Company have reported that Shift K3Y is new at Number (25) with ‘I Know’ while ‘Take Me To Church’ from Hozier is at Number (28).
Iconic singer Cilla Black has narrowly missed entering the Top 40 this week despite re-entering in the midweek chart update ‘Anyone Who Had A Heart’ is at Number (47).
The surge in sales for Cilla Black is thanks to Sheridan Smith’s new biopic on ITV following the life of the legendary performer.
