Jill Halfpenny says fans don’t forget her soapy roles, and she’d like to join Emmerdale!

Jill Halfpenny is of course presently starring in the new series of Wild at Heart, but her former TV roles have included playing Phil Mitchell’s wife Kate in EastEnders, and nurse Rebecca in Corrie…

And it seems fans of both shows most readily recognise Jill for the roles she played in those soaps rather than her more current work.

However, it’s not something that bothers her in any way, and in fact, she’d like to add a role in Emmerdale to her CV, playing the part of Amy Wyatt’s mum. Amy is of course played by Jill’s niece, Chelsea Halfpenny.

First, Jill told the PA that she’s most often recognised as Phil Mitchell’s (Steve McFadden) ex, saying, “With all these new TV channels now, they get shown in lots of countries – I know that the British soaps are massive in Australia as well.

“I still get letters from people who are years behind on EastEnders, saying, ‘I can’t believe Kate is sleeping with Phil’, and I’m like, ‘What?’.”

And of her ambitions for a role in Emmerdale, Jill said, “I’ve told [Chelsea] I’ll come in and play her druggy mum!

“Chelsea’s wanted to act since she was little, and she’s doing brilliantly…

“We’ve always said that we’d love to work together, so I’d never turn down the opportunity.”

And of how she helps Chelsea in her career, Jill said, “We talk about things, and if she’s had a tough day on set or an experience where she feels frustrated or confused, hopefully I’ll be on hand to help.

“But actually the cast of Emmerdale seem so supportive of each other, from the way she talks about them.”

I’d love to see Jill on Emmerdale, would you? And given that it seems Wild at Heart’s about to cancelled, she might be up for it!
