JIMMY AND THE GIANT SUPERMARKET – FINAL EPISODE ON CHANNEL 4 TONIGHT

Jimmy Doherty tries to transform Tesco’s own brand chicken Kiev (they sell two million of them a week). He wants to create a free range version and finds the solution in the form of ‘spent’ egg-laying hens. Once these hens have come to the end of their egg-laying lives, their meat is normally exported to Africa.

Jimmy successfully creates a prototype for his affordable free range Kievs. But will Tesco Head of Product Quality, Richard Stride, and Tesco’s Customer Taste Panel like it? Jimmy also turns his attention back to British rose veal, to help stop the needless slaughter of tens of thousands of male dairy calves after birth. And he gears up for the launch day of his affordable free range products, to see if the public will buy them or not.

Tonight, 8pm, Channel 4

I have never eaten a chicken kiev before and having watched Jimmy’s program I bought 2 for £ 3.00 and had one for my supper tonight. I was really pleasantly surprised. It was delicious, although rather rich with all the butter. Reduce the butter and it would be perfect.
I also bought his pork sausages with pork heart and found it delicious. I wish that there was more use of offal or that it was readily available in the butchers but the British have lost their will to live and have not the taste for real food anymore.
