Joanna Page discusses husband’s accident

Gavin and Stacey star Joanna Page has told This Morning today that when her husband James Thornton was hit by a car while on a shopping trip in London, paramedics were more interested in her role in Gavin and Stacey!

James, who plays John Barton in Emmerdale suffered a fractured knee in the accident, and Joanna recalled how he broke the news to her that he’d been hit by a car.

She said, “He [James] was run over about eight weeks ago round the corner from where we live.

“I had a phone call. I was in the house, he was obviously in shock and he said ‘Hi, it’s me, I’ve just been run over…

“’They’re calling an ambulance. I’m all right but can you come down and see me?’

“So I ran straight out of the house. He was in an ambulance, he had broken his leg and had a mask on.

“They had given him morphine and he was shaking a lot, obviously in shock.

“And in the ambulance they said to me ‘Ooh, you know, where are you from? You’re not from Barry are you, like that Stacey on the telly?’ so I said ‘It’s actually me’.

“James is in shock with a broken leg, lying on his back, with his head in blocks because they thought he might have broken his neck and he is managing to say ‘I’m on telly too, I’m in Emmerdale!'”

As James’ leg had to be in plaster after his accident, Emmerdale writers wrote into his storyline that his character had been kicked by a cow.
