John Nettles, who plays DCI Tom Barnaby in Midsomer Murders, has revealed that he’d hoped his character would be killed off, but the show’s producers had other ideas!

67 year old John has played Barnaby for 14 years, and has made a total of 80 episodes of the hit drama, but it seems he’s had enough and had hoped for a “noble” death for his character.

John told The Sun, “I wanted to die in noble fashion in the service of my country and be buried in Westminster Abbey.

“But Tom and his long-suffering wife Joyce will simply retire.”

John will be seen making his final appearance as Barnaby in the forthcoming drama, Fit For Murder, which airs on ITV1 on February 2nd.
