There’s a heat wave down in Bikini Bottom and SpongeBob and his friend, Squidward, are struggling to work so Mr Krabs decides it’s time they hit the beach down at Goo Lagoon with Patrick and Sandy.

Whilst there, money-grabbing Mr. Krabs tries to sell Krabby Patties to hungry surfers in the sea, but it doesn’t quite go according to plan when they are all swept away by a giant wave.

Mr. Krabs is carried off into the haunted waters of the Dutchman’s Triangle; Sandy finds herself alone on a desert island and SpongeBob, Patrick and Squidward are thrown to a surfers’ paradise tropical island.

A bunch of surfer dudes tell them that the only way back to Bikini Bottom is to catch some waves and surf home. But there’s one tiny problem – none of them can surf!

So, desperate to get home, SpongeBob, Patrick and Squidward go on the hunt for an elusive, enigmatic surf guru named Jack Kahuna Laguna, voiced by special guest star Johnny Depp.

Jack is a legend amongst the surfing community and he tries to impart his wave wisdom on to SpongeBob and co, but has little success. A man of few words, Jack finally gets the help he needs to teach them the ways of the sea, thanks to the impending arrival of a once in a lifetime wave, The Big One.

Will SpongeBob and friends manage to master the biggest wave they’ve ever seen? And will they make it back to Bikini Bottom?
