Jonathan Creek and Call the Midwife to air Christmas specials on BBC1!

It’s been revealed today that BBC dramas Jonathan Creek and Call the Midwife will air Christmas specials this year.

What’s On TV report that in Call the Midwife, Benidorm star Sheila Reid – who plays mobility scooter rider Madge – will guest star in the special episode as “a sad person who has had quite a difficult life.”

Of her role, Sheila added, “I am going to play someone very different to Madge on telly in the Christmas special of Call The Midwife.

“She’s quite a sad person who has had quite a difficult life – she’s at the bottom of the heap.

”So that’s a lovely contrast because there’s no swearing, no fake tan and no mobility scooters!”

Meanwhile, The British Comedy Guide have announced that Jonathan Creek – which of course stars Alan Davies – will also be airing a festive special…

A BBC insider said, “It’s definitely going ahead, and everyone here is very grateful to David Renwick for bringing back such a loved character for such an important time of year.

”We’re very excited to see Jonathan back on screen with a new mystery to unravel.”

Julia Sawalha replaced Men Behaving Badly star Caroline Quentin as Creek’s sidekick in 1999, and former Gavin and Stacey star Sheridan Smith joined the cast as Joey Ross for two of the show’s specials in 2009 and 2010.

Here’s a reminder of a previous Creek Christmas special…
