Jonathan Ross wants to interview Andrew Sachs

It’s being reported today that Jonathan Ross wants to interview his recent fonejackeresque victim Andrew Sachs on his chatshow when he returns to our screens in January. Ross was of course suspended for three months without pay at the end of October and his shows taken off air pending a full inquiry.

It was also announced recently that Lesley Douglas, controller of BBC Radio 2, BBC 6 Music and Popular Music, had resigned over what’s been dubbed ‘Manuelgate’.

In her resignation letter, she states, “The events of the last two weeks happened on my watch. I believe it is right that I take responsibility for what has happened.”

Russell Brand also resigned from his post as a presenter at Radio 2 – after being suspended – and both he and Ross issued a full, unreserved apology for their appalling behaviour.

So, in light of all that, what we’re asking you today is, do you think Jonathan Ross is insane in wanting Andrew Sachs on his show and it’ll just prolong the whole debacle or is it the olive branch of an extended apology and would therefore be a good idea?

You might conclude – as I’ve done – that he’s as nutty as squirrel poo and by even extending the invitation to Sachs, he’s picking at the scab. Or maybe you think he has cohones the size of your average football and just want the chance to apologise in person?

A source from Jonathan’s camp told The Mirror, “He believes that by having him (Sachs) on the show, he will draw a line under this whole sorry affair.”

Ross is said to be “desperately upset” that he offended Sachs; well, for a start, how he could have thought his and Brand’s actions wouldn’t offend the guy I can’t imagine. Maybe if they’d made that call to someone like Chris Moyles or another of their contemporaries, they’d have got away with it, but calling an elderly man to insinuate extremely rude and insulting things about his granddaughter was never going to leave them covered in glory was it?

Andrew Sachs is reported to have said that he “had yet to be invited” on to Ross’s show but that he was “open” to the idea.

He apparently further stated, “He did write me a lovely letter of apology and going on the show is not something I would rule out.

“I’ve got an open mind about things like that.”

So will he be on the show when it returns in January? Time will tell but it’ll be a huge ratings winner if he does, that’s for sure.

Let us know what you think of Jonathan asking Mr Sachs onto his show; is it in poor taste or is it intended to give him the chance to publically apologise?
