Big Bang Theory’s resident ditsy blonde, Kaley Cuoco has revealed how she suffered a ‘big bang’ to the head during a set mishap, even opening up about the moment her career was almost ruined – by wearing the worst hair in history to cover up her black eye.

Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the actress told the whole of America how pranks on set can sometimes go terribly wrong. After filming the Valentine’s Day episode for this season, Johnny Galecki (Leonard) and Kaley (Penny) decided they weren’t entirely happy with their workload for the day and went on to film extra footage for the gag reel.

“We decided to do a surprise prank where Johnny punches me in the face. I go flying off the chair, the chair comes after me… the writers are laughing, Chuck Lorre’s laughing, everyone’s cracking up.” she explained.

Little do the cast and crew know that Kaley is under the table with her head cracked open.

She continued: “I kinda feel like something’s throbbing. Everyone thought I was under the table painting blood on my face, [but] I had cracked my head open. I had blood squirting down my face. I didn’t even know.”

Kaley’s character, Penny, is known for her ditsy blonde moments in the show, in which Sheldon tries to train her with chocolate like a lab rat and it seemingly works. Her relationship with geeky Leonard is no better either when she tries to learn some Physics terminology but the only thing she really learns is Fig Newton’s weren’t named after a town in Massachusetts.

Speaking about the cast in her time of need, she added: “We don’t have a very macho group of people… Johnny’s in tears, Simon’s vomiting in the corner, the blood is gushing down my face. I was amazed at how much was on my face, I thought it was the most awesome thing in the world.”

Then came the moment that nearly ruined her career – In which she would have really been working as a waitress – the SAG Awards. Following six stiches and a black eye, she had to hide her shiner with fake bangs, which she thought was a “brilliant idea” at the time. However, her “helmet-style hair” became the “worst-reviewed hair in history”.

Not all is lost, as Cuoco won Best Actress in a Comedy Series at the Satellite Awards for her role as Penny in The Big Bang Theory last year.
