As fans of Doctor Who will know, it has been rumoured that Karen Gillan – who of course plays the Doctor’s sidekick Amy Pond – would not be appearing in this year’s Christmas special…

However, Karen told the PA that she will in fact star in the show, as will Amy’s boyfriend Rory Williams, who is of course played by Arthur Darvill.

But she added that their roles in the Christmas special, which is entitled, ‘The Doctor, The Widow and the Wardrobe’, were brief, and little more than “cameo” appearances.

She said, “Amy is in the Christmas special, with her husband Rory. It’s a cameo appearance but we’re in there. It was really fun…

“I think we were only down for one evening, just came on set and ran around on set like we always do, it was like we never left…”

And Karen, who’s previously said that she hopes Amy Pond will be killed off when she departs the show, said that she’ll miss working on Doctor Who – and especially alongside her co-star Matt Smith who plays the current Time Lord – when she’s written out.

She said, “I think I will miss it, it’s like no other job. It’s too much fun and I’m sure that I will never do a job like it.

“So I’m just really savouring it and the time will come when Amy has to go, I don’t know when that is yet though.”

Karen, who’s currently filming a role in forthcoming movie, We’ll Take Manhattan, joined the cast of Doctor Who in 2009, and prior to that, had appeared in a number of TV shows, including The Kevin Bishop Show, and Channel 4 comedy, Stacked.
