Kate: The New Diana? Sky One

In 2007, press speculation surrounding Kate Middleton’s six year relationship with HRH Prince William reached fever pitch, but when the couple announced a split in April, the nation was shocked. Had the glare of the media spotlight become too intense? Now reunited, the UK is as crazy about the couple as ever. This special one hour documentary, Kate: The New Diana? examines the continued media whirlwind surrounding the enigmatic woman who’s bagged the world’s most eligible bachelor. But what does fate have in store for this princess in waiting?

Over 20 years, Diana became the most talked about and photographed woman in the world…a fairytale princess. But the storybook lifestyle unravelled, ending in tragedy in 1997. 10 years on and Kate Middleton’s 25th birthday in January saw a media scrum outside her house – the images made for uncomfortable viewing and a stark comparison to the life Diana was forced to lead. Young, beautiful and in love with a handsome prince, is Kate the new Diana?

Or have the Royals changed so much that we’re now in the age of the rock and roll Royal? With the Princes falling out of clubs drunk at 4am, Princess Beatrice out partying with Kate Moss, and other young royals being caught smoking cannabis and wearing tongue studs, the new generation of Royals certainly know how to let off steam.

Kate: The New Diana? will also look at Kate’s childhood and relationship with her mother, possible reasons behind the couple’s split earlier this year, and how Kate handles the media and headlines in comparison with Diana. The documentary includes contributions from James Hewitt, Sky News’ Katharine Witty, ex-3am girl Jessica Callan, Jennie Bond, Carole Malone, Victoria Hervey, paparazzi expert Darryn Lyons, designer Scott Henshall, Ken Wharfe (Diana’s bodyguard) and Patrick Jephson (Diana’s former private secretary).

Exclusive to SKY ONE on Friday 21st December at 10pm
