Katie Derham’s ITV defection
Newreader Katie Derham is leaving ITV and joining the BBC. The move comes just days after it was revealed that Adrian Chiles – host of The One Show – is doing the same.
It seems that Katie has decided that she can better pursue her love of music by joining the hosting team of BBC’s Proms season.
Katie told the PA, “I’m thrilled to be joining the BBC Proms team at the start of such a fantastic season.
“It’s going to be tremendous fun bringing viewers in depth coverage from the concerts and digging deeper into the history of some of the wonderful music.”
And David Mannion, editor-in-chief of ITV News, added, “Katie is an exceptional talent and we shall miss her a great deal.
“Music is, however, one of her greatest loves and this opportunity was always going to be very difficult for her to resist.”
39 year old Katie currently presents ITV’s lunchtime news as well as London Tonight, but she’s also presented the show ‘Classical Brits’ several times.
