KATIE: MY BEAUTIFUL FACE – Channel 4

my-beautiful-face

Katie was young and beautiful. A model and budding TV presenter, the 24-year-old had a glowing future ahead of her. But in 2008 a vicious acid attack destroyed her face – and with it her career and life as she knew it. More than a year on, and having undergone countless operations and rounds of physiotherapy, she has now chosen to give up her anonymity and tell her own story for the first time. Including CCTV footage of the attack, this remarkable Cutting Edge film follows Katie as she undergoes pioneering treatment and attempts to re-build her life, while two men stand trial for the horrific assault.

it must be horrible been burned by acid.

  4. Luke says:

This is sad i have seen a program about three years ago about a attack with acid and the person lost there sight.

It is yet another example of stupid behavior of people have no idea of just how serious the situation is or are just pure evil. Causing this damage to such a harmless person can not have a bad enough sentence for.

It is one of thousands of sighs that modern society is falling apart.

  5. natasha says:

  7. lynda & gordon says:

U may have scars on our face and body but God you are still very beautiful. I hope you have been able to go back in to the outside world and enjoy the lovely things in life – what happened to you was a henous crime- you may not think it, but you are a lucky girl to be alive and very lucky to have such a wonderful, caring and loving family…
they say that everything happens for a purpose and as yet you dont know what purpose this has in your life, but it may become clear in time – you will give so much hope and strength to other people when they watch this programme
    good wishes from us both

  10. Matt says:

Katie , people say beauty is only skin deep and not a truer word has been said , you are couragous, determined & beautiful may all your ambitions come true and you live life to the full

  11. Becky says:

Hello! I have just watched your programme and it brought me to tears to think that anyone could put someone through what the have put you through. I know that whatever anyone says doesnt change how you feel, but you are still so beautiful and there will come a time when u will feel it again.

Keep following your dreams cos you seemed to have just strong ambitions! Nothing or no one should stop you having the life you want so don’t give these men that satisfaction!!

    Good luck with everything!!
    Becky x

  12. Gabrielle says:

Katie, what happened to you was an awful thing to happen in the prime of yourlife. But you are a beautiful girl inside and on the outside you are still very attractive. You may not have your previous face, but you are still a fun, beautiful woman and you will find someone who will love you and have a family with you. In the documentary when you had your party, you were still incredibly attractive and I hope that your confidence grows as time goes on. You will find a career again, maybe in a different area to what you originally wanted but you will find something that interests you and gives you work satisfaction. When the time is right an idea will come to you.

Life often leads us into directions and adventures we are yet to discover and what doesn’t kill us, makes us strong.

You are a winner and there are more strangers waiting to become your friend and important people in your life.

Remember that when people get to know you, looks often diminish into the background as people often see the personality within and that is what they fall in love with.

  13. Gail says:

  18. JOHN ELLIOTT says:

I watched the programme: it was absolutely horrifying. I felt physically sick at the passage of events, and the twisted intent behind this evil person’s action. I was shocked at the enormity of it, and how everybody seemed so calm. I just hope that Katie is able to somehow draw strength and resume her life, and know that she has people’s support.

  19. Sarah says:

Oh my god you are still very beautiful your courage inspired me throughout the programme, and i hope Channel 4 come back and visit you a few years from now. I pray for you that the magical doctor keeps on going with treatment and finds further inspiration in how he can make keep making it all better for you.
I hope that what ever prison those men are in, today justice will be served once again and other inmates that will hear what they have done to you, will make there life hell, and i hope they are tortured for the rest of their sentence.
You will continue to heal inside and out Katie
You have great teeth, great knockers and MAC make up is all you need.lol.
If you read this Katie stay strong and big hugs.

  22. Carly says:

    Hi Katie,

I hope you get to read these comments. I never usually write to people like this, but I after watching your programme last night I felt I wanted to contact you.

What hapenned was terrible and shocking and must have been your worst nightmare come true.

I just wanted to say that you are still a beautiful girl and you looked so lovely at your party. Love the dress too!!

Watching your courage has triggered something in me, because although our situations are not similar at all, some of the things you and your family said I could identify with. I have ME/ CFS and at age 30 am also at home living with parents. I also have a younger sister and as you say its difficult when the role’s reverse and they become the one who looks after you.

I am also fortunate enough to have a great family and like your mum , my mum also gave up work for a period of time to care for me. I am slowley improving but there is still a long way to go. Like yourself I dream of just being ‘Carly’ and living life to the full, following my dreams, and simply meeting a man and having children. I believe it will happen though, as I do for you.

You are really brave. I used to think that ‘being brave’ meant ‘having no choice’ – that you just have to deal with what happens. I feel that no-one knows how they will react until they are actually in that situation themselves. But you made me realise that there are choices about how we react to a situation and ‘it is brave’ to make the choice to carry on and be happy.

What came across as truly beautiful Katie, is your personality, it literally shines through and lights you up – if that doesnt sound too wierd! I admired the way you make the best of yourself – how you paint your nails, etc. It reminded me that no matter what, we can always try our best. I perhaps needed reminding of that a little as its easy to just ’slob out’ sometimes isnt it. I was also reminded that my personality is within me and always here no matter what my body is feeling – and I can choose how I will be.

Sometimes I get really fustrated and fed up and just sooo want to be well and have energy and be normal, but again, I can still put a smile on my face, get dressed and be positive and cheerful so thankyou for inspiring me.

Of course, as you yourself say, we dont always practice what we preach and it is ok to feel low/frustrated at times I guess.

Anyway thanks for sharing your story. I know its hard but be confident and proud because you came across as a lovely person in the film with a great personality. Its easy for people to ‘forget’ the real you when things happen, and sometimes you lose yourself a little too at times, but you are always there deep down – the girl you were born.

Take care and best wishes for a very happy present and future
    Carly xx

  23. Claudia says:

    because you are truly amazing
    :)

  24. Mica says:

your so beautiful you should keep your head held high you got your whole life in frnt of u even though u dont look the same before the attack but you still beautiful and ur inner beauty really shines. :)

  25. Jamie Yea says:

Watched the program last night, we couldn’t turn it off, the strength + bravery you have is truly amazing.
After it had finished, me and mum sad, on the verge of crying, and we both agreed we had this ’sick-feeling’ within us, so angry and upset with what had happened to you, and how horrid some people are that we felt like this. Couldn’t stop thinking about it all night, and as soon as i woke up this morning, i thought about it again. Your story will never leave me, and i really do wish you the best of luck for the future. You should not be ashamed of what you look like as it is healing + will progressivey get better.
You are an inspiration for many of us, this tragic event that has happened to you has shown the world how lucky some of us really are.
I wish you the best of luck, and you are still beautiful.

  27. Lesley Waterhouse says:

Katie what an amazing woman you are! I think you are incredibly brave and if anything, rather than allowing that scum to leave you with a reminder of what he did you should carry on with your positivity to spite him and prove to everyone just how beautiful a person you really are. All the time I was watching you yesterday I saw through the outside and saw the inner beauty that radiates when you talk. Noone can take that away from you! Well done you girl!

  28. Donna says:

Dearest Katie, I hope that you will read these comments and realise what an inspirational and admirable person you are. You truly are so naturally beautiful both inside and out. For someone whose career aspirations relied so heavily on looks and innocently had her life transformed so drastically you have come out the other side shining. Your jovial attitude and laid back sense of humor add further to your stunning beauty on the outside. I know that you will find someone out there that sees what a wonderful woman you are, and they will be lucky to have you. You are a remarkable young lady and I wish you every happiness! xx
