2013 for Katy Perry just keeps getting better. She released her new album ‘Prism’ back in October which topped the charts here in the UK and in the US.
The songstress also released two singles from the album ‘Roar’ and ‘Unconditionally’ which have also seen great success in their own rights. The success continues though as we approach the end of the year.
Twitter is a huge part of well everything these days. Most celebrities have a Twitter account to interact with their fans or just to promote new material and tour updates.
For Katy Perry though since last year she’s gained a massive 15 million new fans on the social networking site making her total just under 50 million going into 2014.
Behind Katy Perry was Justin Bieber who managed to bag 13.8 million new fans while Lady Gaga secured herself 7.6 million new followers.
While only gaining 7.6 million followers this year Lady Gaga still remains in third place of the most popular users according to the social networking site.
Looking at other statistics on Twitter it has been revealed that Hip-hop was incredibly popular as Kanye West and Yeezus and Drake’s ‘Nothing Was The Same’ were (in that order) the most tweeted-about albums of 2013.
We have to mention Miley Cyrus though, she’s been incredibly popular (whether you like it or not) throughout 2013 as ‘Bangerz’ generated 1,590,351 tweets.
This made the LP the third-most-tweeted about while in 2013 Taylor Swift’s ‘Red’ (despite being released in 2012) still managed to generate attention after being tweeted about 1.4 million times.
Niall Horan scored the most amount of music retweets this year after he gave himself a birthday shoutout on the 20th of September which went on to be retweeted 367,011 times.
One Direction managed to score four of the top five retweeted tweets of 2013 while Drake Bell was in fifth place with his Kanye West/Kim Kardashian related joke on the 23rd of June.
If you missed it he tweeted: “In honor of Kim and Kanye’s baby ‘North West’ I will be naming my first son ‘Taco’.”
