Katy Perry soars to the top of the Official Albums Chart with ‘Prism’

Katy Perry recently released her third studio album ‘Prism’ after a lot of promotion online and in the media it seems to have worked as the album has surged past James Blunt to top the charts.

Andrea Begley also performs well in this weeks Official Albums Chart as she scores the highest ever chart placing by a contestant from The Voice UK.

Despite stiff competition James Blunt and his ‘Moon Landing’ (2) couldn’t be beaten by Katy Perry and ‘Prism’ (1) as the beauty soared to the top with an advantage of almost 12,000 sales.

‘Prism’ reaching Number (1) this week gives Katy Perry her second number 1 album. ‘Teenage Dream’, her last album spent a week at the top back in 2010.

‘Moon Landing’ gives James Blunt his fourth album to be in the Top 5 though after his first two albums ‘Back To Bedlam’ and ‘All The Lost Souls’ both reached number 1 on the Official Albums Chart.

John Newman scored a number 1 last week with his debut album ‘Tribute’ but he slips into Number (3) this week while Arctic Monkeys climb two places into Number (4) with ‘AM’.

Rounding off the Top 5 this week is opera star Andrea Bocelli who has scored his eighth Top 10 album with ‘Love In Portofino’ which is new at Number (5).

Taking a look at new entries and high climbers in this weeks Official Albums Chart other than Katy Perry, James Blunt and Andrea Bocelli there are three more albums debuting in the Official Albums Chart Top 40 this week.

Andrea Begley (above), winner of The Voice UK 2013 has made sure that not only her debut album breaks into the Top 10 but has granted herself the highest ever chart position for a contestant from The Voice UK.

Her debut album ‘The Message’ goes straight into Number (7) in the Official Albums Chart.

Speaking with the Official Charts Company the singer said:

“I just want to say a huge thanks to all my fans who have supported my debut album. I really cherish your faith in my voice.”

Earth Wind & Fire are back in the Official Albums Chart this week with their first album full of new material in eight years with ‘Now Then & Forever’ which is new at Number (25).

Indie-pop band Poliça have scored their first ever Top 40 album this week with ‘Shulasmith’ which is new at Number (33).

Finally ‘Chapman Square’ – the repackaged debut album from Lawson climbs 158 places this week into Number (13) according to the Official Charts Company while ‘Teenage Dream’ by Katy Perry soared 91 places into Number (36).
