Katy Perry performed her new single ‘Roar’ at the MTV VMAs this past Sunday and she got her fans involved.
In the run up to the performance Katy Perry asked her fans to vote for the track she would release next. Katy gave her fans the choice between ‘Dark Horse’ and ‘Walking On Air’ to which the fans chose ‘Dark Horse’.
Since the performance on Sunday night where Katy Perry performed ‘Roar’ from a secret location in Brooklyn New York she has spoken to MTV News about the choice the fans made and what the single means to her.
She said in no uncertain terms that the song had been written as a message to men about the troubles of falling in love with her.
Speaking to MTV the 28 year old star from California said: “It’s kind of a juxtaposition.”
“It’s got me, a pop artist, with a little bit of an urban kind of hip-hop-flavoured background soundtrack to it, and the lyrics are kind of witchy and dark, as if I was a witch warning this man not to fall in love with me, and if you do – know I’m going to be your last.”
Katy Perry also spoke to MTV about her upcoming album ‘Prism’ (due to be released on October 22nd) will be her fourth studio album since she hit the music scene big with ‘I Kissed A Girl’ back in 2008.
Perry said: “There’s not really any darkness on the record. There’s definitely some textures and colours but I think I was saying that when I was going through a different phase, but I really let that light in.”
Katy Perry will also close this years iTunes Festival from London. Make sure check out iTunes for all other performer information. The festival is completely free of charge with performances streaming live every night.
