KILL IT, SKIN IT, WEAR IT ON CHANNEL 4

Merrilees Parker likes fur. But can she kill it, skin it and still wear it? In her day job as a chef, she knows exactly where her food comes from. Now she wants to find out if it’s possible to source ethical fur like we source ethical food. Fur is back on the catwalks, in the magazines and on the high street.

Today around 400 designers use fur, compared with only 45 in 1985. Parker attempts to find out the truth behind this remarkable fashion revival; getting unprecedented access to a Danish fur farm, going fur trapping in Idaho and seeing images of animal suffering that she never wants to see again.

Sunday 10 August 2008, Channel 4 10PM.

Im glad they showed it last night. even tho i was crying my eyes out, i think people who wear fur deserve to know where it comes from and what actually happens to the animals. hopefully it will make them think twice about wearing fur. i never wear clothes from companies that promote fur. all of the images i saw last night will haunt me. people who think this is ok are sick and i hope that one day someone will club them to death and steal their skin just so they know how it feels..and i hope they are alive wen it happens. i am totally against people who wear fur for fashion. I am so angry about this now haha anyways before i go into a huge rant…DONT WEAR FUR!

I was utterly in despair after watching the programme kill it skin on Monday 11th August. I was aware that animals are killed inhumanly either for their fur or for their meat, and I know this goes on in China and Korea, but to see this live on t.v. made me feel quite sick. How can human beings do this to dumb animals whatever the reason. In Korea dogs roaming the street are rounded up, sometimes torched and tortured alive for their meat for the dinner table, how sick is that? If many more people wrote and complained to the Chinese and Korean Authorities, and stopped taking their holidays there, you never know, maybe one day they may just get the message.

I saw this programme last night knowing i would find it very hard, I work with animal rights group peta, and even though i have seen some very disturbing images and videos i have to say watching this show made sick to my stomach, Even my husband was disturbed even so that he has been saying this morning that this needs to stop. So far with dedicated people like you we have managed to send Chinese and Korean Authorities letters with hundreds of thousands of signitures on the fur free pledge. There is the peta uk website which will bring you to the fur free pledge, so Please with more people who sign it the better the impact.

I think all designers and celebrities should be forced to watch this programme because when the fur is dispatched to them they have no idea where it came from. I cant phsically comprehend why in the last 20 years the amount of designers selling fur in their collections has risen from 40 to 400. Do they actually even know the reality behing it all? That show reduced me tears and was glad that Merrilees Parker ripped all of her fur clothing. The chinese fur farm will haunt me for as long as I live and I am definetly going to be holding charity events for this cause and at least try to make some difference.

I cant understand why anyone could even consider wearing fur knowing its obtained in such cruel and often barbaric manner. Ignorance is no excuse and the only way to stop the trade is NOT to buy it. The images of those poor wretched creatures being skinned alive was so disturbing and had a profound impact on me, I will never forget it.I still feel haunted and so so sad that in this day and age when quality imitation fur is available people still choose real fur. Shame on you.

After watching this progamme last night, I cant believe how much this affected me. Could’nt stop crying at the poor animals being skinned alive, so that some people can wear as jackets! The fox which was skinned alive was in complete shock and its little face will haunt me forever.
These people who do this are pure Evil. Defenceless little animals once again, tortured and killed.

I completely understand all these people who say that the images they saw will stay with them. I saw the under cover video of the fox being skinned alive many months ago, and it still haunts me. Really makes you go off Beyonce, Jlo and Eva Longoria strutting their stuff in their blood clothing

i will be disliked just because i am a farmer who has poultry and geese who live traps and executes foxes in a humane manner. i have no love for the fox beleive me and it inflicts suffering to other animals but no animal alive should ever , ever have to suffer like that and i am crying for an animal that i never thought i would - i am sick to my stomach and cannot imagine the pain - i am a tough farmer but weep at the agony and needless suffering - is it to economise on bullets why? why ?
i dont understand it. i am ashamed to be a human being , i will boycott any chinese product whatever it is for all my life and we need to do something to stop this. souless people.

Please excuse my language but if I could I would club and skin every single one of those motherfuckers with the bluntest knife I could find.
Put them through the pain and suffering these animals have obviously gone through and leave them to die.
I’m very much a person who believes in an eye for an eye.
    These people should suffer.
    They really should.
I’ve been campaigning for fur to be banned many years now and I’m so glad this footage has finally be shown.
I hope that everyone will start putting pressure on these fur wearing celebs and the government to try to do something.
I’m not naive enough to suggest that it will ever stop completely but we can make a good start at least!
