Kingdom: Sunday 6 May

KingdomSunday 6 May 2007 9:00pm – 10:00pm on ITV1.

Fisherman Tom Case and his son, Tom Junior escape when an explosion wrecks their treasured trawler and it sinks. Their insurance company refuses to pay out and Tom turns to Kingdom and Kingdom for help. Peter dispatches Lyle to the Insurer’s head office, Wolffe and Curt, to investigate further.

Beatrice, wilting from boredom, suddenly catches a glimpse of an attractive man strolling past her window. She sets off in pursuit and finds out that he is the local painter, Alan McEwan (Paul Kaye). She promptly signs up as a model for his life drawing class and begins modelling that very afternoon. The sight of her naked body is too much for one old man, who collapses and has to be taken to hospital. Alan, however, is smitten and an energetic fling begins.

Snell turns up at Kingdom and Kingdom in a state of fury. The council have started a vendetta against him after his refusal to budge on the little pieces of land that he owns, building a speed bump all the way up to his front door. Peter sorts this out, but then a speeding sign appears and Snell can’t even open his front door. To add injury to insult the council then digs a manhole directly underneath his front step.

Lyle returns from the insurers with new information. Tom isn’t getting his money because of a previous conviction; twenty years ago he served a prison sentence for sinking his boat on purpose.

Tom swears that the explosion was a genuine mechanical fault and Peter thinks he’s telling the truth. Lyle despairs at Peter’s trusting attitude and decides to dive to the wreck himself in order to prove that this is all a waste of time. But the current is too strong, he doesn’t manage to get any pictures and the case remains unsolved.

Meanwhile, Market Shipborough is buzzing with the news that the gorgeous Beatrice is doing life modelling, and Alan’s painting class is full to the brim.

Snell goes to pick up his car from the residents parking area, but he finds his vehicle clamped, his usual space turned into a designated disabled spot, and a parking warden poised with a ticket in hand. Will it ever end?

Christopher Waller’s parents seek Peter’s help with their plans to build a swimming pool in their back garden, which their neighbours are objecting to. Peter comments on how well off Mr and Mrs Waller seem to be, and their answer is both simple and cryptic – they are using the money that keeps appearing in their dead son’s bank account.

Tom ends up in a police cell after dumping slurry on the insurance company’s building. Peter presses Tom to tell him the truth about his sunken boat, and Tom gives him his word. Peter trusts him and offers to pay for the salvage team to bring up the wreck. The salvage team conclude that the wreck was in fact sabotaged; but not by Tom Senior. It is Tom Junior who finally admits that he tampered with the boat. Emotions run high as he sells his treasured motorbike and takes his father’s place in jail.

Beatrice surprises Alan at home, only to find him in bed with another woman. She explodes and returns home distraught. Peter discovers her weeping under the table.
