Sky1’s fast paced entertainment series reinvents record breaking by inviting members of the public and well known faces, to rise to the challenge and try innovative record breaking attempts.
STEVE JONES and KONNIE HUQ pair up for the first time to present GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS SMASHED! Together they are on a mission to shatter existing records in a series of grand and sometimes risky challenges, alongside the funny and slightly bizarre. This brand new series is a fun, accessible romp that champions the have-a-go spirit of record breaking, packed into an hour of uplifting all-round entertainment.
Each show will see Steve and Konnie dive head first into incredible record attempts, from eco-water skiing behind a Rowing 8 to Rap Jumping down the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth; a 100 metre trampoline dash to the largest gathering of people creating a light sculpture. Any dormant competitive streaks are bound to rise to surface in the battle of Jones vs. Huq!
The GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS SMASHED! studio audience will be an essential part of the proceedings, bringing ‘audience participation’ to a whole new level. A surprise mass record attempt will see the audience mirror celebrities and world class athletes, in the hope of sharing the pages of the proverbial record book. Celebrity guests will be welcomed into the studio to face a new, daring or crazy live record attempt. Pop star ALESHA DIXON (winner of Strictly Come Dancing 2007), ex Eastender JOE SWASH (winner of I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here 2008) and thrill seeking rugby stars KYRAN BRACKAN (winner of Dancing on Ice 2007) and MARTIN OFFFIAH (Strictly Come Dancing 2004) are just some of the guests who are poised and ready for their challenge in front of a lively and supportive GWRS! audience.
Steve commented: “Guinness World Records. I get excited enough reading the book, let alone presenting the show! I truly can’t wait to see the weird and wonderful attempt to create and smash World Records but when it comes to Steve V Konnie……..I will destroy her!!!!”
Konnie added: “I absolutely love the thrill of taking on such exciting and sometimes mad challenges and love every minute of working with Steve. It’s been fun, bizarre and on the odd occasion extremely outrageous. I can’t wait to get into the studio where I know the audience there and at home are just going to love it!”
Guinness World Records is the global authority on record breaking. It has 54 years of tradition with over 100 million book copies sold, making it the biggest selling book in the world. Sky1 is proud to be the home of such an iconic brand.
