Lara Pulver would like to play Doctor Who – wants to return to Sherlock!

Lara Pulver has admitted that she would welcome the chance to take on the role of Doctor Who, but only if she had the backing of the show’s fans.

The 31 year old actress became close to Doctor Who boss Steven Moffat, when she starred as Irene Adler on BBC’s detective drama Sherlock and ever since, rumours have abounded about her joining the cast of the channel’s other big cult hit.

The brunette beauty was spotted working in Wales recently and many fans assumed that she was there to film new Doctor Who scenes, however in a new interview with The Evening Standard Lara claimed that the wrong conclusions are being drawn.

She insisted:

‘Steven [Moffat] and I have both said we thoroughly enjoyed working together, and then there was me being in Wales so the media put two and two together.’

So would she take on the role of the titular timelord, if it was offered to her? Well the English star is in two minds and responded:

‘Yes and no. Not if it meant the end of the Doctor Who franchise, because the fans aren’t keen on it.’

As previously mentioned, Pulver played Irene Adler in “A Scandal in Belgravia”, the first episode of the second series of Sherlock. When asked if Moffat would be requesting her return for the third series – which is expected to start filming in early 2013 – she added:

‘If they want to leave her as a one-episode wonder, then I completely back them. If they do bring her back, I’m sure it will be in the most unexpected, dynamic way they could possibly do.’

Of course Lara has had other high profile roles, other than her Sherlock and DW opportunities. The Essex born actress starred in the third series of HBO’s True Blood as Sookie Stackhouse’s fairy godmother, Claudine Crane.

In 2009 she appeared as Isabella – the sister of Guy of Gisbourne – in the most recent Robin Hood adaptation. In 2012 she joined the cast of Da Vinci’s Demons – the Starz/BBC collaboration based on the life of Leonardo da Vinci’s early life – as the “seductive and politically-minded” Clarice Orsini, the wife of Lorenzo Medici.

Do you think Lara would make a good ‘Doctor’? Would you welcome her back to Sherlock? Watch her naked scene from series two and leave your comments below….
