As a very experienced manager in retail I was disgusted yet again with the management of Sainsbury, they appear to know the answer already and do everything to make sure the outcome strengthens their position, that is really weak and poor management. Last night's fastrack youngster demonstrated this perfectly, the first manager who 'helped' the trainee had a style which was to say the least patronising and I was surprised to see that the manager saw himself as more important than the customer, says it all. I was one of the top ten managers in a national company and managed a medium size outlet but also did regional duties, I did regional duties as I was one of the more experienced and proven members, so the 'elite' bunch managed the busiest sites or a number of smaller ones. There was no way on earth that he could have managed that particular site, it was far too busy to have anyone employed who did not already know what they were doing and were already working at that type of outlet's pace, if an existing manager from a smaller outlet was thrown in the same way then they too would have failed. This programme highlights everything that is wrong with management in the UK, free publicity for the shops that is all they are after.
