It was pretty bad, the journalist (Jacques Peretti) was definitely against Madonna’s adoption of Mercy (and possibly David’s too) or at least that’s how it came across by the way he referred to Madonna as “The rich white woman” and made comparisons between her and missionaries of the 19th century and the messiah

All Jacques Peretti sought to do was to gather information (not solid evidence) from a local Malawian journalist whose word was clearly gospel, a few fact less government officials who simply denied knowing anything and laughed like simple creatures when asked a less then easy question. The “miracle” returning father of Mercy also made an appearance and as usual had God to thank for his guidance (but only after being offered money to be interviewed of course) Kabbalah leader Philippe van den Bossche didn’t help the situation any as he squirmed his way out of questions by providing riddles as answers to quite plausible questions, maybe this was because he was ill prepared who knows. The end result was that the majority of Malawians seem to think Madonna was doing a good thing, only those who were financially affected in some way seemed to disagree. As for Jacques Peretti he seemed to walk away with a somewhat better opinion of the Raising Malawi project but still his opinion of Madonna and her so called cherry picking of orphans hadn’t seemed to alter much.

I didn’t learn anything but found the programme to be filled with accusations aimed at Madonna and her projects. I hadn’t realised that ploughing millions into a poor country to help educate and feed was a selfish act, I also hadn’t realised that a “White woman” shouldn’t adopt a black child in fear of it loosing it’s heritage, can you imagine Malawians ever wanting to leave there and come live here and how many people would choose a privileged lifestyle over poverty and living in an orphanage, not many it seems, that’s if this is a race issue rather than a political one. I would like to see how Madonna would handle this slight and simple journalist. I am not for taking sides unless I can see clear evidence or hard facts none of which this programme offered therefore “innocent until proven guilty” and if guilty then guilty of very little.
