LAST PARTY AT THE PALACE

Channel 4’s High Society season goes back to 1958, when one of Britain’s long-standing aristocratic ceremonies came to an end. Last Party at the Palace tells the story of the last debutantes’ season in 1958 and a group of women profoundly shaped by it.

Through their eyes, the programme presents an introduction to the dying days of an aristocratic ritual that had lasted almost 200 years. In the decades that followed, the world changed in ways unimaginable to young ladies of their class and generation. How did they adapt? And what of a new breed of debutantes, in 2007?
