Lea Michele’s official spokesperson has released a statement following the death of Cory Monteith.
Early this morning, the very sad, shocking and devastating news spread around the globe that 31-year-old actor and singer, Cory Monteith had passed away in his hotel room.
His girlfriend, Lea Michele has not spoken directly to the press or released an official statement at this time, but Michele’s official rep has asked that people kindly respect her privacy.
Speaking to People Magazine, Michele’s spokesperson said: “We ask that everyone kindly respect Lea’s Privacy during this devastating time”.
It is thought that Lea will release an official statement within the next week when more information is released following Monteith’s passing.
The devastating news was broken earlier this morning when Vancouver Police confirmed that the body of 31-year-old Cory Monteith had been discovered at Vancouver’s Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel just after midday yesterday.
His body was found by a member of staff who went to check on Monteith as he had not checked out of the hotel on time.
The cause of Monteith’s death is still very much unknown, with some speculating it could be down to either drink or drug abuse, however, police investigating the tragedy have said that there’s no “foul play” involved.
Monteith has spoken openly about his substance addiction in the past. Cory became addicted to substance abuse when he was 19 and recently entered rehab. It seems Cory was back on top when he left the facility earlier this year, so it is not yet clear what may have caused his death.
But, one person that stuck by his side throughout is Lea Michele. At the time, she said: “I love and support Cory and will stand by him through this”.
Speaking to Sky News, acting chief of Vancouver Police, Doug LePard said: “As was the case in countless homes, I watched Glee regularly with my daughters, and I know there will be shock and sadness in many households with the news of his tragic death.
“Mr Monteith checked into the hotel in July 6 and was due to check out of the room (on Saturday).
“There were others with Mr Monteith in his room earlier… but video and fob key entries show him returning to his room by himself in the early morning hours and we believe he was alone when he died”.
He added that the police “would not discuss anything that we may have found in the room at this time”
It is said that Monteith had been dead for several hours before staff found his body midday on Saturday.
Following the braking news, celebrities and co-stars sent out their respects and tributes.
Taylor Swift – who dated Monteith in 2010 said: “Speechless. And for the worst reason”.
Rihanna added: “Cory Monteith, may your spirit be at peace, and may you fly with the angels… Heartbreaking. My prayers are with all of his loved ones”.
“Rest in peace Cory Monteith” tweeted Mia Farrow.
Dot-Marie Jones, who plays Coach Bieste also tweeted: “I have no words! My heart is broken”
Mark Salling, who plays Monteith’s on-screen best pal in Glee, Puck, simply tweeted “no”.
The news has shocked much of the world to its core as Monteith was indeed a household name in many homes across the globe due to the huge success of Glee, in which he starred as Finn Hudson. Our thoughts go out to Cory’s friends and family, especially Lea Michelle at this sensitive time.
