Lewis star Kevin Whately will make guest appearance in rival drama, Inspector George Gently
He’ll apparently play the role of Don McGhee, who’s a former Deputy Commissioner of the Metropolitan police force.
Kevin – who’s also starred in Auf Wiedersehen Pet, Peak Practice, and Inspector Morse – will be seen in the fifth series finale of Inspector George Gently, which is entitled, Gently in the Cathedral, which was written by Peter Flannery.
Diana Quick, who stars in another legal drama, Silk, will also appear in the episode as barrister Gitta Bronson. Actor Nigel Lindsay will also star in the episode, playing DI Reese Statham, who’s a cop with a vendetta against Gently…
However, in a recent interview with Chronicle Live, Kevin has revealed that had he listened to his career adviser, he might not have ever become an actor.
Back in the seventies, the career specialist told him there was “no future in acting” and advised him to settle for a more practical career…
But fortunately for fans, he didn’t take that advice.
He explained, “It’s difficult to imagine now but in Newcastle in the Sixties, acting was like wanting to go to the moon and this guy said, ‘There’s no future in that son, what else do you want to do?’
“So I said I wanted to be a big business tycoon, which I didn’t, it just popped out of my mouth.
“He got me signed up with Price Waterhouse within two days for four years I was indentured to do auditing.
“Luckily my principle let me out after three-and-a-half years because by then I’d found out about drama schools.”
