Lily Allen set to top the singles chart once again

It’s that time of week again when we give you the Official Singles Chart midweek update. Courtesy of the Official Charts Company it looks likely that Lily Allen will return to the Number (1) spot again with ‘Somewhere Only We Know’.

Lily Allen went to Number (1) with her cover of Keane’s ‘Somewhere Only We Know’ towards the end of last month after the track was featured on the John Lewis Christmas advert.

Calvin Harris, Alesso and Theo Hutchcraft of Hurts went to number 1 last week with their track ‘Under Control’ but it looks set to be knocked off the top by Lily Allen after just one week.

According to the Official Charts Company Lily Allen is also included in this years Official Christmas Number 1 contenders list. While it may not remain there until we reveal this years Christmas number 1 it’s definitely proven its worth.

One Direction move up one place to Number (2) this week with ‘Story Of My Life’ while last weeks number 1 ‘Under Control’ by Calvin Harris, Alesso and Hurts moves into the Number (3) spot.

Completing the Top 5 on this midweek Official Singles Chart update is ‘Let Me Go’ by X Factor judge Gary Barlow.

Looking at new entries at this midweek stage we can see that All About She are this weeks highest new entry at Number (11) with their track ‘Higher (Free)’.

James Arthur is new in at Number (12) this week with ‘Recovery’ following his performance on the X Factor this weekend. Former X Factor contestant Rebecca Ferguson looks set to debut at Number (14) with her song ‘I Hope’.


Justin Bieber is back again with ‘Change Me’ which is at Number (21) while Leona Lewis debuts with ‘One More Sleep’ at Number (32).

Christmas is almost upon us and so the Christmas tracks are out in force ahead of the Christmas Number 1 race.

‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ by Mariah Carey has climbed 25 places to enter at Number (22) at this midweeks Official Singles Chart update.

The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl climb 27 places to Number (26) with their Christmas hit ‘Fairytale Of New York’.

Finally ‘I Will Wait’ by Mumford & Sons climbs 57 places into Number (25) today following Luke Friend performing the hit on Saturday nights X Factor show.
