Lily Allen returns to Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart

Last weekend Lily Allen was knocked off the top spot by Calvin Harris, Alesso and Hurts but this week she has taken back the top of the Official Singles Chart.

If she can hold on to the top spot for a few more weeks then she’ll be crowned this years Official Christmas Number 1 though it’ll be a tight race.
‘Somewhere Only We Know’ originally by Keane is Lily Allen’s cover for this years John Lewis Christmas advert and first went to the top of the Official Singles Chart two weeks ago.

According to the Official Charts Company Lily Allen faced fierce competition from ‘Story Of My Life’ by One Direction over the past seven days.


However she has managed to finish 6,000 copies ahead to return to the top once again.

One Direction and ‘Story Of My Life’ are at Number (2) this weekend while Bastille climb to Number (3) with ‘Of The Night’.

Last week’s Number 1 ‘Under Control’ by Calvin Harris, Alesso and Hurts falls three places into Number (4) while Gary Barlow and ‘Let Me Go’ finishes at Number (5).

Taking a look at new entries and high climbers on this weeks Official Singles Chart we can see that this weeks highest new entry is former X Factor star Rebecca Ferguson with her new single ‘I Hope’ which is at Number (15).

James Arthur, a fellow X Factor contestant and winner is new at Number (19) this week with his new single ‘Recovery’.

All About She – an all Brit trio make their debut on the Top 40 this week with ‘Higher (Free)’ which is at Number (20).

Leona Lewis enters the Official Singles Chart this week at Number (34) with her new Christmas single ‘One More Sleep’.

At Number (39) is Justin Bieber with his ninth Top 40 single in as many weeks ‘Change Me’.


We’ve got another week to go on the Official Singles Chart before the Official Charts Company kick off the race for the Christmas Number 1.

Two classic Christmas tracks have raced up the charts though as we get closer to the big day. ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ by Mariah Carey is at Number (14) – up 33 places while ‘Fairytale Of New York’ by The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl climbs 37 places to Number (16).

Finally on this weeks Official Singles Chart Mumford and Sons re-enter the Official Top 40 following Luke Friend performing ‘I Will Wait’ on last weekend’s X Factor. The track has climbed 39 places into Number (33) this week.
