Laura Crowe (Maggie O’Neill) loves her husband, Will (Robson Green); he’s loyal, dependable – boring – a bit like an old Volvo. Will on the other hand is absolutely devoted. The fact that they do nothing but argue is a good thing – after all it shows such a fantastic level of communication – doesn’t it? At least they’re not like their friends Adrian (James Wilby) and Katie Bishop (Emily Joyce). Adrian is Will’s best mate, he’s reckless, charming, materialistic, successful…altogether irresistible. So much so that when he turned on the charm a frustrated Laura just couldn’t help herself – and so she didn’t! Wrapped up in their affair the subtle differences in their behaviour become increasingly obvious - although not to Will and Katie. It’s left to the kids, Oliver Crowe (Jospeh Friend) and Zoe Bishop (Chloe O’Sullivan) to uncover the truth following a consultation with Vanessa Feltz’s column in Marie Claire. Faced with the unsavoury idea that his mum and Zoe’s dad might be “doing it” Oliver’s left feeling slightly panicked. How on earth is he meant to play this one? Maybe if he’s very, very good they’ll realise that it’s him that causes them trouble, not their relationship, and they’ll get back together…

With Will being a busy headmaster little Oliver hasn’t benefited from quite as much parental attention as his older siblings. In fact, most of the time, Will and Laura seem to forget that he’s even there. Conversations about him carry on around him as though he were invisible. What his parents don’t realise is that Oliver’s no fool, he’s got his eyes open and he knows everything. Despite Oliver and Zoe’s attempts to cover up their parent’s misdemeanours, Laura and Adrian are eventually outed by Katie who, convinced Adrian was having an affair, told him she’d punctured his condoms, only to discover that the other woman is none other than her good friend, Laura.
