Lorraine Kelly to be the new ‘face’ of Daybreak?

The Sun’s TV Biz reports today that Lorraine Kelly is set to become the new ‘face’ of Daybreak, along with a “lesser known” male co-host.

Lorraine – who’s currently off work following a horse riding accident – has long been a favourite with breakfast time telly viewers, and has remained with the show since GMTV launched and subsequently became the ailing Daybreak.

Presently, Kate Garraway and Dan Lobb are fronting the show, as they have been doing since the departure of flops Christine Bleakley and Adrian Chiles.

However, the paper states that Daybreak’s new boss David Kermode is in talks with Lorraine – and with Five News presenter Matt Barbet – about fronting the show from 7am until 9.25am.

A show insider said, “It doesn’t take a genius to realise the answer to ITV’s breakfast problems is staring them in the face.

“The audiences go up for Lorraine’s slot and the reason for that is Lorraine. She is down to earth and someone British women can relate to…”

However, the source stressed that “no deal has been done” with Lorraine, but it seems that both she and Kermode are “keen to make it happen.”

The insider added, “Everyone agrees this is something that could work.

“[Lorraine] was getting well over a million for her show even when Christine Bleakley and Adrian Chiles were getting just a few hundred thousand for theirs.”

The paper goes on to say that should the deal with Lorraine and Matt fall through, Kermode has plans to keep Kate Garraway on the show and enlist ITV News host Natasha Kaplinsky to co-present.

Well at least the women watching won’t be jealous of her like they are with Christine and Kate. They have nothing to be jealous about
