Lost and Fringe: Are They Connected?
Well, JJ Abrams is officially my new idol and I may get a small replica of him made and chant before it twice daily. I’ve been very behind the times for one reason and another and missed the start of Fringe, but last night, I downloaded the pilot and episode two and I’m hooked.
It’s not as good as Lost for sure but it has sent me into a conspiracy theorist tizz… is Fringe intertwined with Lost?
Is it providing clues and will ultimately be revealed as the back story to the Dharma Initiative or is JJ Abrams just sitting back and having a titter knowing that Lost nuts like me are getting all excited about little things in Fringe that could relate to Lost?
The Numbers
For instance, the numbers – which have played such a big part in Lost – cropped up a couple of times in the first two episodes of Fringe and of course, the actor Lance Reddick plays both Matthew Abbadon in Lost and Philip Broyles in Fringe.
We know from his appearances in Lost – and as happens with many key characters – he seems ageless and can effortlessly be in several places at once. In Lost, Lance’s character is very similar in nature to Broyles; coincidence or deliberate? Will the two characters turn out to be the same person, just with different names? It’s worked for other characters such as Marvin Candle who’s had more name changes than Jordan and Prince.
Now to the numbers – in Fringe, the doomed flight that turned up with everyone dead was Flight 627… 6+7+2=15 and 15 is a key number in Lost. And of course, a doomed flight is common to both shows.
There were 108 passengers on the Fringe flight and 108 minutes was the interval between pushing the button in the hatch on Lost. Also, the key Lost numbers of 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42 add up to 108.
An earthquake was mentioned during Fringe that registered 8.7 on the Richter Scale –
8+7=15.
Futuristic Research
Of course, many of the things that Dr Walter Bishop was working on or used as research are things that have been hinted about on Lost such as eternal youth – the pituitary gland thief in Fringe and Richard Alpert in Lost who’s always the same age – mind reading, quantum physics, the Fibonacci sequence, cloning, biochemical warfare, enhanced longevity and so on. And is Massive Dynamics a Dharma inspired company? Was Dr Bishop, or any of his cohorts, ever employed by the Hanso foundation who were big on work with genetics, life enhancement and so on?
Namaste
Also, at one point on the Fox network’s Fringe site, clicking on the image of a six-fingered man took viewers to YouTube and a video about a man with twelve fingers and the word Namaste came up at the end. Namaste is of course a commonly bandied about word on Lost. I do think though that this was just a red herring though as the video has nothing to with Lost or Fringe… or does it??
See if you can see some link that I can’t in this video:
Granted, I’ve only seen two episodes of Fringe, and if JJ Abrams published his shopping list I’d be scanning it for the numbers and hints about Lost, but what do you think? Are these two shows interconnected? Have you spotted anything that could connect the two?
Bloopers
Now, onto a little find I made on YouTube… Lost bloopers and outtakes! Here they are…
Well, I’m off to obsess about Fringe and Lost and get up to speed on Fringe episodes, but do let me know if you’ve spotted anything else that I’ve missed which could be a connection between the shows!
