MAKE ME A CHRISTIAN ON CHANNEL 4
Would a return to a more ‘Christian’ way of life halt this country’s moral decline?
In this three-part series, a group of volunteers are giving up their normal lives and attempting to live like Christians for three weeks. And they’re a diverse bunch; a stressed middle class family, a shopaholic, an atheist, a young Catholic and a Muslim schoolteacher who recently converted from Christianity.
Tonight, the mentors confront the thorny issue of sin in our lives. Visiting some of the volunteers at home, the mentors uncover a multitude of ’sins’ including promiscuity and praising false gods - to name but two…
Sunday 10 August 2008, Channel 4 7PM.

In terms of balance, can we expect a “Make me an atheist” series, with a Christian, a Muslim and..? volunteering to live as atheists for three weeks?
(whatever that means: visiting strip clubs, having lesbian sex and becoming fashion-obsessed capitalists, I suppose, looking at the those on the receiving end of the make me a Christian series… or might they be atypical? Not one of them has been eating babbies.)

I was a bit disappointed by this first episode. Being a Christian involves developing a personal relationship with God, and teaching people all the rules in the world is not the same thing at all if someone’s heart is not changed. Hopefully that bit was left out in the editing - I await to see what happens in the next 2 episodes.

The Gospel of the Kingdom of God needs to be preached first and foremost. It is impossible to behave like a Christian without a total transformation of the heart and to experience the real tangible presence of God Himself. Being a Christian is not obeying a set of rules but a heart change, brought about by the power of the Holy Spirit.
