Make sure your dog’s watching ITV at 7.15pm tonight! Why? Read on…

It’s possibly the weirdest thing I’ve written about in a while, but hey, just when you think you’ve been there, done that, seen it all and got the T-shirt, somebody comes up with something new…

And tonight, at 7.15pm on ITV1, an advert will air that contains special sounds that only dogs can hear. Yup, that’s right, it’s true. And nope, it’s not April Fools’ Day.

The Sun reports that the ad – which is for pet food – will feature “noises at frequencies too high for human ears.”

The paper adds, “In tests mutts stopped whatever they were doing to stare at the screen and often ran right up to it barking…”

The ad, made by dog food makers Bakers, is a spoof of the classic 1969 movie, The Italian Job, and though the ad was in fact run last year, this time around, it has the added noises as a “treat for your pet.”

Mark Zaki, of Bakers, said, “We hope it’s an engaging experience for dogs and their owners.”

Here’s the ad, minus doggy audio treats…

A similar ad aired late last year around Europe, and likewise featured sound frequency beyond the range of the human ear.

Of the ad, it was reported that the doggie-only sounds were intended to get dogs to sit and stare at the screen, thus convincing their owners that they really wanted the dog food featured.

Here’s a look at that ad, with, I assume – but can’t tell as I’m not a dog. Shuddup in the back, I am NOT a dog – canine audio…

So, please do let us know if your dog reacts to the ad or not! I’m fascinated to know!
