The race is on to score the 2014 Christmas Number 1 Single and Album, and for Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars, they’re making their plea with new single ‘Uptown Funk’.

Meanwhile over on the Official Albums Chart, British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran is still making the headlines with his second album ‘X’.

‘Uptown Funk’ from Mark Ronson features vocals from Bruno Mars and wasn’t due to be released until early next year but that was brought forward to Monday night (8th December).

The track was also featured on last week’s X Factor semi-final when contestant Fleur East put on one of the best performances we think we’ve ever seen on the show.

‘Uptown Funk’ is currently Number (1) on the charts going into Sunday and if it holds onto its current position it will mark the first single to reach the top of the charts for Mark Ronson.

The track is currently in the running to be the Christmas number one alongside Band Aid, The Peace Collective, Iron Maiden and of course the 2014 X Factor winner – whoever they may be.

Band Aid 30’s ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas’ is at Number (2) following its physical release while Oliver Heldens enters the chart at Number (3) with ‘Last All Night (Koala)’.

Meanwhile Ed Sheeran falls four places to Number (4) with ‘Thinking Out Loud’, while Take That’s ‘These Days’ completes the Top 5 heading into Sunday.
