Emmerdale has today announced one of the programmes leading characters is set to leave the show with a sensational storyline which will kick off an explosive New Year in the Dales.
Acclaimed actor, Maxwell Caulfield joined Emmerdale for a 12 month stint last October and in the knowledge that he’d committed to the role for this length of time the Emmerdale writing team have created a highly dramatic exit for his character. Consequently, Maxwell’s departure paves the way for a gripping climax to love-rat Mark Wylde’s reign in the dales, as he finds himself caught in a web of twisted deceit.
Millionaire Mark arrived in the village last Christmas with his wife Natasha (Amanda Donohoe) in search of a tranquil rural life. However, the peace didn’t last long when his first wife Faye (Kim Thomson) tracked him down and exposed him as a bigamist with a false name and a son, Ryan (James Sutton), who he never knew he had.
With his two wives and four children all residing in one village, Mark’s furtive past was bound to catch up with him and threaten to shatter his future. As his sordid secrets unravel leaving a trail of devastation in their wake, will honesty ever become a part of Mark Wylde’s nature? Could the weak willed womaniser take the easy way out or will someone else do that for him?
Series Producer Gavin Blyth said: “The highly anticipated departure of Mark Wylde has given us scope for a fantastic exit storyline over the winter months that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats.”
And whilst the final twist to the tale is being kept firmly under wraps Gavin teased: “We could see history repeated and Mark ditch the dales for a brand new life. Or will he keep his promise and leave the village with ex flame Faye? Perhaps a twist will ensue and Natasha will get her man for keeps, or could something far more sinister rid Mark of his demons forever? This is the final act to be played out for Mark Wylde and it’s guaranteed to be as unpredictable and explosive as when any major character leaves Emmerdale.
Maxwell commented: “I can’t believe how fast my year in beautiful Yorkshire has flown by! But there was only so long Mark could keep those two women on the boil before he was the one getting burned! I’m confident the viewers will find this story gripping to the very end. Emmerdale is in great shape and I’ll miss them all.”
Blyth added: “Maxwell has been a true asset to Emmerdale and a highly valued member of our cast. We are indebted to him for his passion and commitment to the show over the past year and he will be greatly missed by the production team and viewers alike. “
