Matt Lucas says he David Walliams “have no immediate plans” to work together again

Little Britain star Matt Lucas has told TV&Satellite Week magazine that he and comedy sidekick David Walliams – who is of course a judge on Britain’s Got Talent – “have no immediate plans” to work together again.

The pair of course shot to fame in Little Britain, and have since gone on to enjoy success in a number of TV shows, both together and individually, and Matt is about to launch his new show, entitled, The Matt Lucas Awards.

Airing as of April 10th on BBC1, the new show sees Matt presiding over a mixture of comedy, music and chat as he, his mum and celebrity talk about who’d land nominations in various unlikely awards categories, such as Most Moreish Food to Dreadfullest Football Song Ever Sung.

Of the show, Matt said, This is a very different kind of show for me. It’s not scripted and I’m not in character.

“I was nervous about appearing as myself, because I haven’t done that much before, but I think it works well…

“Also, Mum has just retired and I thought it would be nice for her to get out of the house.”

He added, “This is the first thing I’ve done without David Walliams, so I wanted it be very different…

“It’s cleaner than some of the stuff we have done, and it gave me the chance to work with lots of other comedians.”

And of David’s appointment as a BGT judge, Matt said, “I’m very excited to see David as a judge on Britain’s Got Talent…

“He is so funny and spontaneous, and I think he’ll be a massive hit on it.

”We have no immediate plans to work together again, but I’m sure we’ll do something in the future…

“We are as close as ever, but just doing different things at the moment.

And finally, of what’s next for Matt, he said, “My next role is playing American drag queen Divine, who appeared in lots of John Waters movies…

“It’s in a Michael Winterbottom a film about porn baron Paul Raymond, starring Steve Coogan. Playing an overweight homosexual will be a real challenge!

”I’m happy to go where the work is, and I’m open to all offers…

“If they need someone to fill in for Phillip Schofield on This Morning, they know where I am.

“Actually, that’s too much of an early start for me. Leave it to Schofield. He knows what he’s doing.”
