Journalist Jacques Peretti travels to the heart of Essex to examine what happened on that fateful night that ended in Stuart Lubbock’s death and helped bring about the end of Michael Barrymore’s glittering career.
Through the events of that night, Jacques gains insight not just into the personal demons of a fallen entertainment icon, but also into the contradictory worlds Barrymore tried to straddle: shiny floor glitz versus the gay scene; his sexuality versus the hard machismo image of Essex.

Michael Barrymore: ‘What really Happened.’ Its clear that Stuart Lubbock suffered horrific internal injuries at the address in Roydon. The true facts of the dreadful events of that night & morning & all those involved in the death of Stuart Lubbock will come out in the end. Its clear that Stuart’s father Terry Lubbock will not let the matter rest, until he get the truth that Stuart deserves.
All those you mean, some people here know one person and he is not responsible for anyone’s death.
All this talk of that Michael has not spoken up a lot of it cannot be made public either, so what are you talking about?
And why should it, Terry has said he isn’t blaming Michael, but uses his name for publicity only.
I was on at the beginning of the documentary with a friend so I damn well know that all it is now is a big media circus and more publicity for Terry.
Sorry to tell you Michael has not commited such a evil crime or murder.
