John Branca and John McClain, who are both executors of Michael Jackson’s estate, have sent an open letter to NBC and MSNBC blasting their decision to air the documentary ‘Michael Jackson and The Doctor: A Fatal Friendship’.
Branca and McCain claim that the documentary, which will air in the UK on Channel 4 soon, shows Murray “smearing the reputation of his ‘friend’” – the ‘friend’ being Jackson of course – and they further accuse the network’s executives of paying Murray a fee in excess of $1million for taking part in the film.
TMZ and website legendarymichaeljackson both obtained a copy of the letter that was sent to NBC and MSNBC, and in it, Branca and McCain write…
No sooner was Conrad Murray ordered led away in handcuffs after his conviction on manslaughter charges in the death of Michael Jackson than we discovered your MSNBC network inexplicably will showcase him in primetime Friday night as if he is worthy of celebrity…
It goes on to say…
We have read news accounts that Dr. Murray has had cameras following him since 2009 as if he is his own reality television show.
We also have seen October Films claiming that Dr. Murray received a nominal $ 1 for “an exclusive look at the last two years of Murray’s life” while leaving open the question of wether payments were made to his representatives. As the executors for the estate of the victim of Dr. Murray’s crime, we would like to know how much money in total was paid for this privileged “access?”
Was it really only $ 1, or was it more?
The letter concludes…
Dr. Murray’s victim, Michael Jackson, was a loving father, an incredible talent and someone who had much left to give to the world. Dr. Murray is a convicted felon who a judge felt compelled to have placed in handcuffs and jailed immediately after the jury delivered its verdict.
He is not someone NBC Universal should be giving a platform to on a prime-time pedestal. We demand that you exercise proper judgment and refrain from airing this program.
Very truly yours,
The Estate of Michael Jackson
And a group of Jackson’s fans, who call themselves ‘Justice 4 MJ’ are trying to organize a global boycott of the documentary.
They issued a statement recently in about the forthcoming film, in which they said, “The only documentary we want to see is the one of Murray enjoying prison life.”
Yesterday, Michael’s brother Jermaine tweeted, “I hear all upset/frustrations re Murray doc.
“It’s shameless & sickens me too, but I choose not to give it attention/controversy it craves.”
What do you think of this story? Is it wrong to air this film, or can you see nothing wrong with it?
