Mistresses Series Two On BBC One

Mistresses

Sarah Parish, Sharon Small, Orla Brady and Shelley Conn are set to return to BBC One in Mistresses

One of the most talked about dramas of 2008, BBC One’s hit Mistresses, from Ecosse Films, has been recommissioned for a second series it was announced today.

Mistresses follows the lives of four 30-something friends and their quest for true love, returning with lead actors Sarah Parish, Sharon Small, Orla Brady and Shelley Conn reprising their respective roles as loyal and steadfast doctor Katie, struggling single mum Trudi, high flying solicitor Siobhan and fun loving events organiser Jessica.

The men in the Mistresses’ lives are also back: Siobhan’s devoted husband Hari (Raza Jaffrey) and her former lover and father of her unborn child, Dominic (Adam Rayner), Trudi’s on/off boyfriend Richard (Patrick Baladi) and Jessica’s occasional shag and boss Simon (Adam Astill).

Douglas Rae, executive producer and Managing Director of Ecosse Films, says: “The response to Mistresses has been phenomenal. In the new series we will learn a great deal more about Katie, Trudi, Siobhan and Jessica as well as the men, and women, in their lives. We are planning plenty more surprises and maybe even a couple of new faces will be joining the cast – watch this space!”

As series one drew to its conclusion the friends’ love lives took very different turns: lover to many, Jessica had finally fallen in love – with lesbian bride Alex – only to end her affair heartbroken, no longer able to be “the other woman”; Katie narrowly missed being struck off after admitting a two-year affair with a patient and her relationship with Sam was hanging by a thread; 9/11 widow Trudi finally realised her true feelings for Richard after handing over her far-from-dead, con man husband over to the police; Siobhan, pregnant with her lover’s child, was reconciled with Hari who eventually agreed to bring up the child as his own and give their marriage another go.

Julie Gardner, Head of Drama Wales, added: “We are delighted to be working with Ecosse Films on the second series of Mistresses. The first series really struck a chord with the BBC audience and we’re thrilled to be welcoming the characters back so we can further enjoy the thrills and spills of their messy, romantic lives.”

Mistresses will start filming in September 2008 for transmission in 2009 on BBC One.

  6. [...] second series of Mistresses kicks off tomorrow night at 9pm on BBC One, but for those who have forgotten the first series, or [...]

  7. Carolyn says:

I think the music is Glory Box by Portishead. It uses the same sample as the Tricky song.

I liked series one of Mistresses, series two is even better with the inclusion of Siobhan’s lover Tom Lockyer as he is definitely the best looking of all the men. I hope that if there is a series three, which I hope there is, that he will be in that series also. I would also like to know if he is appearing in anything else.

  9. Dazza says:

The track is “Hell is Round the Corner” by Tricky. It samples “Glorybox” by Portishead.

Having watched the final episode of Mistresses which I thoroughly enjoyed, I would love there to be a third series but would like it to include Tom – Tom Lockyer, as he added to this series as he had the necessary looks and mystery for the part he played. I am sure the scriptwriter would have no difficulty in continuing Siobhan’s love/hate relationship with him as she was definitely attracted to him, and he husband Hari was no contest. I look forward, with hope, for another series.

When is the BBC going to let us know if there is going to be a third series. I much preferred Mistresses to Waterloo Road, but might I suggest that,if there is going to be another series, we have more than just six episodes.
