Money Envy Coming To Virgin 1

This December sees Virgin 1, Virgin Media Television’s recently launched entertainment channel, unravel one of the fascinations surrounding Brit’s today – money. In an exclusive and unique, one-off documentary, Money Envy will explore if being ridiculously rich can actually make us happier or whether it’s in fact down to possessing a positive attitude.

As a nation of increasingly materialistic consumers, spiralling into debt and obsessed with the era of celebrity, it is easy to understand why so many of us suffer from Money Envy. This show looks into the burning question we all want to know – would being a millionaire really make us more content in life?

Hosted by award-winning comedian Stephen K Amos, who also presented Penis Envy, Money Envy examines what it really takes to become a millionaire and our inherent desire to be loaded in an increasingly superficial culture. We hear from psychologist Cari Cooper who explores the mind set of the wealthy and analyses almost everything from their get up and go attitude, to the downright ruthlessness involved as they make their mark on the high flyers list.

Money Envy will follow a whole host of characters and delve into the various methods in becoming rich. We hear from self-made entrepreneurs such as self-professed millionaire Tre Azam (The Apprentice) and Peter Rosenfield who divorced his wife 15 years ago and left his wife everything including a £600K house to start completely afresh! He now owns six companies and is an aspiring millionaire who loves risk taking and a challenge. We also hear from Raj Shastri a self-made property entrepreneur who worked his way up from having hardly any cash to a multi-million pound property portfolio in just five years and lastly, from millionairess Jacqueline Gold, founder of Ann Summers, who although is now a happy high achiever, demonstrates that even when coming from a hard abusive upbringing, it is still possible to overcome the odds and reach your goals.

Money Envy also examines “old” money through meeting The Fulfords (as seen on the successful F***ing Fulfords on Channel 4), an aristocratic family who were born into money and know nothing else but to be extremely well off, as it’s all they’ve ever known. And lastly the show will also explore both instant and wannabe millionaires and reflects just how far some people will go in order to keep up with their endless need to buy more and more. The show will ask whether today’s society is motivated by prosperity and wealth and if being rich really all it’s cracked to be?

Money Envy is the third and most recent edition to a series of hour-long documentaries run on Virgin 1 as part of the peak time “Envy” strand following on from the previous success of both Penis Envy and Boob Envy.
