Sunday night sees the eighth episode of the hugely popular ITV period drama, Mr Selfridge, return to our ITV1 screens
After last week’s Sherlock action, Mr Selfridge finds another infamous historic shop owner gracing him with his presence this week, Mr Woolworth!
Harry Selfridge and wife Rose invite Frank Woolworth and his wife Jennie over for dinner. Right from the start it is clear to see that Harry and Frank have a great deal in common, both being American tycoons set on introducing their exciting new retail adventures to the streets of London.
However, Frank is just about to open a Woolworths store in Brixton, but when he reveals to Harry that his next big idea is to open a West End branch, Harry is far from enthusiastic.
Harry sets about a new mission to make sure everyone is aware that Selfridges is open to all and sundry, just like Woolworths is, despite its already growing exclusive reputation. In a bid to achieve this he starts making spot reductions on certain items throughout the store.
This leads his head lady, Miss Mardle, to suggest making a grand event of the reductions, advertising it as a mid-season sale, the first of its kind.
Of course, never one not to not see a good thing when it is put under his nose, Harry loves the idea and sets about making the dream a reality.
Window displays are central, as is doubling his already quite large advertising space, in his bid to make sure that Frank and his Woolworths do not steal any of Selfridge’s business, reputation or popularity.
You can see all the drama as Jeremy Piven brings this episode of the Selfridges legacy to life this Sunday at 10pm on ITV1- but, in the meantime, if you simply cannot wait, then watch this sneaky-peak clip below:
