Mr Selfridge: Series finale preview – Ellen’s play ruffles feathers!
We can hardly believe it but Mr Selfridge is coming to an end this weekend, but to help ease the pain we have a sneak-peak clip for you to cast your eye over!
Mr Selfridge, the already epic ITV period drama, hit our screens this New Year, bringing light to the cold Sunday evenings all the way through to the spring.
Telling the story of Harry Selfridge (played by Award-winning actor Jeremy Piven) the flamboyant and visionary American entrepreneur, yet ever-so-slightly eccentric owner of the now iconic London department store, Selfridges.
Created by multi-award winning writer Andrew Davies, Mr Selfridge tells the story of ‘Mile a Minute Harry’, a man with a mission to make shopping as thrilling as sex. Pioneering and reckless, with an almost manic energy, he created a theatre of retail where any topic or trend that was new, exciting, entertaining – or sometimes just eccentric – was showcased.
Fans across the country have fallen in love with Harry and the story behind his success and, whilst our sadness can be soothed somewhat by the fact that a second series has been commissioned, it is still with a heavy heart that we bring you these details of this year’s series finale!
In Sunday night’s final episode Harry finds himself in a slightly tense situation as he slips backstage at the theatre to wish Ellen Love luck in her performance, only to find that Frank and Tony are already there.
Ever-smooth Harry puts on a front ignoring the awkwardness, even when Ellen warns him that he might not like the play.
And it would seem she might be right!
Despite Harry publically getting the royal seal of approval from the King, it soon becomes clear that his family and business are the object of humiliation from the plays content.
In particular Harry’s wife Rose is horrified to realise that all the play’s spite is directed at her and her affair with Roddy Temple, an accusation which her daughter Rosalie is mortified to pick up on.
Rose isn’t the only one in the firing line, however, and when the curtains come down her embarrassment is shared by Harry’s and Lady Mae, whilst the audience all whisper, point and snigger at the upper class trio.
Mr Selfridge Series One Finale can be seen at 9pm on ITV1/ITV1 HD, watch our teaser clip and leave your comments below….
