My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding Channel 4 special sees riot police called in during filming!
The words ‘Gypsy Wedding’ and ‘police called’ aren’t unusual to find in a sentence, however, add the words ‘riot police’ and it becomes somewhat noteworthy!
Today, the Daily Mirror reports that as crews from Channel 4 filmed the wedding of travellers Margaret Hanrahan and Miley Doran for a forthcoming My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding special, a fight broke out among guests which rapidly escalated into a violent free-for-all.
The paper states, “Gypsy gatecrashers brawled with fellow travellers during filming of a My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding special.
“Riot police were called to the lavish hotel party where a Channel 4 television crew was capturing teenage bride Margaret Hanrahan’s big day.”
One hotel guest, who probably sensibly asked not to be named, said, “There were massive dresses, cars coming and going and then fights…
“It was intimidating.”
And despite the fact that the bride and groom – who are both 18 – kept secret the venue of the marriage and the reception until the actual day, nonetheless, a group of uninvited travellers found out the locations.
Organiser Sally Cherri said the fight was “quickly taken outside” and added, “It was a lovely day, despite the incident at the end.”
A Met Police spokesman confirmed officers attended a disturbance at the venue.
